Dr. John Dickinson, Neurosurgeon

Dr. Dickinson relocated his family to Idaho Falls in July 2018 and opened up his new practice in 2020. Dr. Dickinson is a board-certified neurosurgeon who brings the latest procedures and neurosurgical techniques to his practice. He currently sees patients in Rexburg and Idaho Falls. 

Dr. Dickinson earned his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. After that, he graduated from the Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in Yakima, Washington, with a degree in medicine. 

During his time as a medical student, Dr. Dickinson completed his clinical clerkships in Eastern Idaho, cementing his bond with this area. He most recently graduated from his neurosurgery training at the Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, Illinois. 

Dr. Dickinson focuses on minimally invasive spinal surgery, image-guided spinal surgery, neck and back reconstruction, and decompression. He enjoys forming a professional relationship with his patients and looking at all possible avenues of treatment prior to considering surgery. He brings to East Idaho many new and fresh approaches to the treatment of neurosurgical diseases.

Dr. Dickinson has strong familial ties to East Idaho and believes living and practicing in a location with solid family values will serve him as a husband, father, and physician. He and his family love being involved in the local community and the many outdoor activities that East Idaho has to offer. Dr. Dickinson enjoys boating and hiking with his family.

Jordan Mecham, PA-C

Jordan Mecham, PA-C, is a dedicated physician assistant specializing in neurosurgical care, with a particular focus on spine-related issues. Originally from Pingree, Idaho, Jordan began his journey in medicine with an undergraduate degree from BYU-Idaho, followed by PA school at Idaho State University. Since graduating in 2010, he has worked in the field of spine and neurosurgery, spending the first 13 years of his career in Utah before returning to his roots in Southeast Idaho.

Jordan is thrilled to be back in his home state, where he and his wife, a Blackfoot native, are raising their four children. Outside of his work in medicine, Jordan enjoys building and construction projects, playing pickleball, and spending quality time with his family. With a warm, compassionate approach, he is committed to providing exceptional care to his patients and helping them achieve the best outcomes.

Thomas Scruton, PA-C, DMSc

Thomas J. Scruton, PA-C, DMSc, is an experienced and dedicated neurosurgery physician assistant specializing in neurosurgery and interventional pain management. Originally from New England, Thomas completed his Bachelor of Science and PA program at Saint Francis University in 2000, followed by Board Certification with Special Recognition in Surgery. 

Throughout his career, he has worked in hospital medicine, orthopedics, and, most extensively, neurological surgery. Thomas has practiced in diverse settings, including academic hospitals, level two trauma centers, critical access hospitals, and private practice, gaining a well-rounded perspective on patient care.

In 2023, Thomas earned his Doctor of Medical Science degree with a specialization in Advanced Clinical Practice, reflecting his commitment to lifelong learning and excellence in patient care. He is an active APP section member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Associates. His certifications include BLS, ACLS, PALS, ENLS, FCCS, and CITI, underscoring his dedication to the highest standards of clinical practice.

After starting his career in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, Thomas and his family moved westward, living in Colorado, then Utah, and now Idaho, where they embrace an active lifestyle and the outdoors. When he’s not practicing medicine, Thomas is an avid mountain and road cyclist, telemark skier, and outdoors enthusiast, often exploring trails or backcountry terrain with his family. As an independent contractor, Thomas brings compassion, expertise, and a collaborative approach to each patient, committed to helping them achieve their best quality of life.
